Parallelograms
Parallelograms is an online publication and multi-artist project exploring the relationship between images and interpretation. Each week, we provide an artist, writer, designer, or collaborative team with an image found online. We then ask them to create a unique web project in response to this image. New projects are published at the beginning of the week and past projects are archived chronologically.

HERE...
content will be loading throughout each day and subsequently archived at the end of one week.

Energy is never lost, only displaced.

The house at Lincoln Road was built in 1910. There may be ghosts - residual energy emitted from the objects left by prior tenants. There are pockets and folds within the house that reveal its existence in time, dating it across the century.

The works deal with the energy autonomous in objects or images, or respond to the energy within the house.

Natalie Beall: Folds and pleats in cloth abound, Rachel Blackwell: A familiar reaction, Ben Boatright: Rituals repeat themselves, Lindsey Castillo: Found or taken, Tyler Coburn: A secret to be revealed, Catherine Czacki: Open with electricity, N.Dash: Indigo records activity, Jennifer Jane Dohne: Sticks and stones, Sarah Dziedzic: Historical narratives are placed, Jesse Galaznik: Ghosts are contacted, Paul Heyer: A rolling stone gathers no moss, Tuomas Korpijaakko: Things need no anchors, Ajay Kurian: Crystalline structures take over, Pierre Le Hors: The images suspend, Claudia Mendoza: Time melts like gold. Valerie Piraino: Lights and peeling walls evoke, Denise Schatz: Objects are recorded as shadows, Amelia Saddington: Vibrations are present, Linnea Vedder: A gift absorbs darkness.

The house is located at 236 Lincoln Road near the Prospect Park Q in Lefferts Manor, Brooklyn.

Opening: Saturday, June 18th 7-10 PM
Closing: Saturday, July 8th 7-10 PM

Capricious Presents:
New York Did It to Me
Curated by Sophie Mörner
Featured in the New York Photo Festival

Opening Reception:
Wednesday, May 11, 5:00 p.m. — 7:00 p.m.

Smack Mellon
92 Plymouth Street @ Washington
Brooklyn, NY 11201

New York Did It to Me is an exhibition about the kind of craving and wishing that results from living and working among the hustle and grit that is our fair city. The magnetic energy that pulls us here and inspires us also forces us to seek retreat into nature and to reconnect with other sides of ourselves. The selected images transport us to those quiet parts of “New York dreams” – reviving us and bringing us back to the core possibilities we know to exist, even within the intensity of the city.

The exhibition’s natural focus on the emerging artist, ties to the strong mission of Capricious, a magazine, artist book publisher, and curatorial project dedicated to showcasing emerging fine art photography. As a leading fine art photography project, Capricious occupies a rare and whimsical space, operating as both a tool for discovering new talent and as an artists’ oasis.

Death of Print: Collection I

End of Century
175 Rivington Street
New York, NY. 10002

Opening Reception:
Sunday, April 3, 2011 3:00pm - 6:00pm

Information sharing is in the midst of its greatest transformation since the advent of the printing press. As the core of the media system shifts towards digital, independents and artists are reacting by creating a new wave of works on paper. This re-found interest is what motivated Death of Print, a platform for artists to sell their independently published artist books, zines, and other printed media.

Collection I will be Death of Print’s first installation. It will be built at the Lower East Side concept store End of Century, an unconventional platform for creatives that is staged as showroom, store, salon, and exhibition space. The space and its contents are fluid, where everything is impermanent and available for exchange.

OFFICINE FOTOGRAFICHE
Via Libetta 1 - 00154 Roma

The Little big press show was created to take stock of the trends that are changing radically
in recent years the world of photography.
A vitality increasingly moves the evolution of
the photographic book in a independent direction, self-produced, self-publishing photo books, fanzines and small publishing houses are increasingly active and prolific in the world.
Enthusiasts Photograps publishing, by Alec Soth, with his Little Brown Mushroom Jason Fulford, brilliant founder of J & L, to Stephen Gill, with Nobody Books, decided to work independently on photo books and drain through small publishers, self-productions that run parallel to the production of the major publishing houses. Engage in experiments involving the video, like the Germans Bohm Kobayashi, moving from the collective experiences on the web, as the Italian fanzine
0-100, or carry out self-produced by the different facets, as in the case of Joachim Schmidt or Luca Donnini.

A freedom that allows research in materials, composition, print quality and peculiarities of the preparations. A constructive approach and experimental work that represents the most exciting and stimulating side of contemporary book photography.
